Egorievsk district is situated in the south-east of Moscow Region. It can be divided into two parts. The western, hilly part with the heights up to 214 m and the eastern low part of 110 - 150 m height. The low part of the district is the beginning of the lasting Meschera lowlands going further to the neighboring Ryazan and Vladimir regions.
The poor sandy soils was not much in the agricultural use and 55% of the territory is covered by forest. Most of the forests are mixed but there are considerable pine areas and pit bogs. The natural environment is well preserved comparing to the other areas of the region. There are 15 conservation zones in the district. The biggest of them occupies 51.5 square km.
There are a number of native mammals in the area: elk, wild bore, fox, hare, raccoons and marten. More rare animals are ermine, beaver, desman, wolves and lynx. Quite common birds are wood-grouse, black-grouse and hazel-grouse.The waterfowl is plentiful on the lakes, bogs and water reservoirs.
