Egorievsk artists: Vladimir Kouzmetsov

Âorn in Egorievsk in 1948. Has been painting since 1968. Since 1972 a graduated architect. In 1975 joint a group of E. Belyutin, one of the Soviet underground art leaders. That time A.Kouznetsov was a participant of many non-official exhibitions.

In the late 70-s - early 80-s the artist left the Belyutin's school and became a professional artist. That time he mainly was sculpturing and wood-carving. His wooden sculptures portray the interaction of inner and outer space, absorb many meanings and visualize numerous ethnical and ecological motives.

The artist create by serious braked by long periods of search for the new. The new Kouznetzov's vision is mostly in a close contact with very traditional art culture. One can easily reveal the antic motives (" The Egyptian mirages", "Greek torso"), pagan Turko-Finnish images ("The Goddess of Kama", "Bird-like idol") and Slavic folklore ("Siring", "Polkan"). The artist is bold at using the well-known historical and art symbols in his own purposes.

Last years the artist turned his attention to space. He also started to use new, non traditional materials and their processing methods. The specific passion of the artist - to reveal the new sides of the well-known subjects. For example "My town" (2002) is a serial where the well known Russian provincial town has been emptied and fill with the weak mysterious light. Such reserve methods are very effective in portraying the classical urban landscapes which are very conservative and fragile for more fringe experiments. The new attitude is not a final goal here, it has been used just in right portion. The experience of professional architect also brought a very positive input into these works which can be considered as a concept serial and may be defined as "a positive neoconservatism".

The pictures of V. Kouznetsov are often exposed in the galleries of Moscow and other towns as well as are bought by collectors from Russia, Italy, Spain, France, Denmark, Germany.
