Egorievsk artists: Alexander Khlebnikov
Besides his tutoring activity, after the graduation he had been devoted to water color painting and graphics. However since 1990 the tempera icon painting became his main activity. The artist explores the Old Russian cultural heritage as well as the local art tradition. Being brought up in the Russian Old Believing family he always has been encountering rich cultural tradition of the land of Goulsitsy, famous for its icon painting, book calligraphy and decorative brass casting. Alexander is very attentive to any of the fine details of his art; he even uses the old methods of tempera and dying oil making. Generally he is attached to the very old cannons and colorings. The icons of A. Khlebnikov now are being a part of a number of collections in the USA, Germany, France, Holland, Switzerland, and Bulgaria. For the last few years the artist also works on wooden architecture. The wooden chapels designed by Klebnikov have been built in the villages of Ivanovskaya, Gridino-Shouvoye, Chelokhovo.

A. Khlebnikov was born in Egorievsk in 1953. In 1975 he was graduated from the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute (Dept of Art), master class of academician V. Efanov.
